The iPhone folds. Does it fit your life?
iPhone Duo in a seated position. Product imagery: Apple.
We'd shortlist the iPhone Duo if the extra screen would earn its keep every day — the early reception to the screen and in-hand feel is encouraging, especially if you read long things or plan on the go. Battery is the reason we'd still check full reviews before committing. The real question is whether the space is worth S$1,200 more than a same-storage iPhone 18 Pro.
Tech / A bigger screen, a bigger decision
We’d shortlist it if the extra screen would earn its keep every day. The early reception to the screen and in-hand feel is encouraging, especially if you read long things or plan on the go. Battery is the reason we’d still check full reviews before committing.
The question is what you would do with the space—and whether that is worth S$1,200 more than a same-storage iPhone 18 Pro.

What the people who’ve held it say
Better in the hand
than on paper?
Jeff Parsons at Tom’s Guide (20 September) liked the balance and heft after about half an hour. He also noticed fingerprints more readily on Night Sky than Star White.
Harish Jonnalagadda at Android Central (19 September) spent an hour at an Apple briefing in Mumbai. He praised the weight distribution despite the 254g specification, and liked the screen and software.
Mark Spoonauer at Tom’s Guide (10 September) found the early experience polished. His battery discussion uses Apple’s estimates; it is not an endurance test.
Those are useful first impressions, formed during short demos. They don’t establish battery life in a real week or how the screen and hinge will age. FYPIRL hasn’t tested the device.
What actually changes in your day
More screen. Less bag.
If your tablet usually stays at home, a larger screen in the device already coming with you is a compelling idea. The Duo opens to 7.6 inches; outside, it has a 5.4-inch display. Both offer ProMotion up to 120Hz.
Apple describes two apps side by side in Split View with the inner display in landscape. That could suit reading and planning; try the apps you actually use, because specific compatibility hasn’t been established here.
Not balanced on the soy sauce.
The hinge is the quieter win: hands-free FaceTime while you cook, or a show set at a viewing angle. No stack of books. A small convenience we’d use a lot.
Your friend finally sees the shot.
Duo Preview shows the person you’re photographing a live view on the outer display. They can adjust their own pose and framing. Anyone who has taken thirty photos of a friend who hated all of them understands the appeal.
The crease: subtle, not gone.
In its 9 September hands-on, MacRumors found the matte display made the fold less conspicuous. It could still appear in certain lighting.
We’d judge that with a screen in front of us, under different lighting, rather than one dramatic close-up online.
Manufacturer figures / Not a mixed-day test
44 hours isn’t
44 hours of your day.
Apple’s specifications also list up to 24 hours of typical use. These are manufacturer ratings, not independent measurements from the hands-ons above.
Video playback is not a day of maps, photos, messages and a hotspot. Different screens and playback conditions also prevent a simple daily-endurance ranking against another phone.
The recent hands-ons we reviewed don’t settle real-world endurance. We’d look for full battery tests before choosing it for battery life.
Matched configuration / 256GB
Screen person
or zoom person?
The Duo premium over the 18 Pro is exactly S$1,200 at 256GB. Choose around how you spend your day: inner-screen habits on one side; a conventional phone and dedicated telephoto on the other.

The pocket and travel test.
The Duo is heavier, thicker and wider closed than the 18 Pro. Set those numbers beside the reviewers’ positive impressions of its balance, then judge it in your own hand.
If buying a physical prepaid SIM on arrival is part of your travel routine, check eSIM support at your usual destinations first. And if you shoot school concerts or sport from the back of the hall, the Pro’s dedicated telephoto is a meaningful difference in equipment.
If a demo unit is available
Try the day you’ll actually have.
Use normal, gentle handling and the photo tests staff permit. A launch date doesn’t guarantee a demo before pre-orders.
- Open and close it normally. Pay attention to the grip and weight, rather than forcing a one-handed trick.
- Tilt the inner screen under the shop’s lights. Notice reflections and the fold at your usual reading angle.
- If permitted, check the pocket you actually use and whether the closed width feels comfortable.
- Type a longer message on the outer screen. Then try your own reading or planning workflow inside.
- Set it at table height and check the FaceTime viewing angle.
- Try Duo Preview with a friend, if staff allow it. See whether the preview helps your usual photos.
Telco maths / Singapore dollars
Work out your own number.
As of 21 September, we haven’t verified a complete, comparable Duo telco quote within our research scope. Recheck quotes before ordering: M1, Singtel and StarHub. This worksheet contains no sample offers.
Total = upfront device payment + all device instalments + service over the comparison period + mandatory fees + chosen extras − guaranteed discounts.
A “S$0 upfront” offer can still carry a full handset balance. Device instalments and service charges are separate. Compare the same storage, similar data and benefits, and the same service period.
All fields except trade-ins are required. Enter 0 explicitly where a charge does not apply. Include GST in every cost. For changing monthly rates, use the exact average across the comparison period; include recurring extras as their full-period total. Check roaming, data caps, cancellation charges and any final device balloon payment in the written quote. Include a balloon payment in the upfront device amount here so it is counted.
Our call: shortlist it.
Then try it.
We’d lean towards Duo if reading, planning and the inner screen are the point of your day. The early hands-ons make that proposition more appealing.
We’d lean towards the 18 Pro for conventional phone value and telephoto reach. Worth a place on the shortlist; try a demo when one is available and check full battery reviews before committing.
